Wow! What a whirlwind the past few days have been. Within the past week I made a last minute decision to go Chad and help put together the team that will compete in the ConIFA world cup in Sweden this coming June.
A few days ago a piece of advice I was given was to be flexible. Well, I haven’t even left the good ol’ USA yet and that is already being put into practice. In the past few days alone everything changed when my visa didn’t arrive from Washington on Saturday as planned. That being said, I went ahead and flew out to Los Angeles and am now playing the waiting game in hopes my visa will arrive today, Tuesday, which will allow me to head to Chad this coming Saturday, then onto the camps early the next week. Let’s just say all of this has been a bit frustrating. However, I’m learning to be flexible, right? Right. So instead of seeing all of this as a set back or frustrating I’m choosing to see it as a blessing in disguise.
Tonight I had the opportunity to sit down and work with Mark Hodson who has been to the camps previously and coached the Darfur United team in the 2012 VIVA World Cup in Iraqi Kurdistan. Tonight we got our game plan together for the upcoming tryout and worked on curriculum for post-tryouts all the while I was soaking up any and all advice he had to offer before I set off on this new adventure.
So until I finally make it to Chad, a quote I will have to live by…. “We are stubborn on vision. We are flexible on details….” ? Jeff Bezos
