1. Mindfulness works. I know. What an aha moment! Only millions have been practicing it for thousands of years. Nonetheless, to see someone float through a rough, normally stressful journey to the edge of war and be joyfully present at every step was a revelation.
On this Thanksgiving, may we include in loving awareness everyone who needs care and protection – everyone.
Thirteen years was very difficult for me grasp today as we walked refugee camp Djabal. Thirteen years is the amount of time Darfuris have been living in refugee camps in eastern Chad.
We have used this family’s story to tell the story of Darfur. They saw their village destroyed, sons killed, and became refugees that the world has forgotten. I now hope that their story has new happy chapters, and maybe then Darfur’s story will also become brighter and full of hope.
I love coming to Djabal. The camp is surrounded by beautiful hills, and the people are warm, thoughtful, and have a great sense of humor. I’m also saddened when coming to Djabal.
