Location: Nduta Refugee Camp, Tanzania
Nathanael is currently a Little Ripples teacher and is the Coordinator of all other Little Ripples teachers in the Nduta camp. He arrived in Nduta in 2016 alone. He met his wife and married her that same year and they welcomed their first child, a girl named Joy-Tiffany last year; currently 1 year and 7 months. Nathanael finished secondary school in Burundi and was working as a temporary pre-school teacher when violence broke out. When he returned home one day, his parents had fled and he has not seen them since. That is when Nathanael decided to flee to Tanzania. Since arriving in the Nduta camp, Nathanael has meet with many of his previous neighbors from Burundi, but no one knows the whereabouts of his parents.
Previously, Nathanael had dreamed of becoming a nurse, but now he likes working with small children and loves being a Little Ripples teacher.
“When I work with small children, I get to know them and teach them how to solve problems and challenges. I love to see my students learn and grow.”
Right now, Nathanael has little hope of ever leaving the Nduta refugee camp. However, if he manages to do so, he dreams of attending university someday as long as he doesn’t have to leave his family. Instead of returning to Burundi, Nathanael would prefer to settle somewhere where peace is sustainable and his children will never have to experience war, violence or conflict.
