Most are worth quoting and I see the inspiration behind each of them, but rarely does a quote stick out to me like the following quote by Steve Jobs,
“Once you discover one simple fact; and that is everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.” Steve Jobs
We all know what Steve Jobs has done and the marks he has made in the computer, music and phone industries. He has been revolutionary and I love how he breaks down this success by simplifying it into one simple fact. Steve Jobs wasn’t just speaking about iPhones and iMacs either. He was speaking about life, all of it. All that is around us and in every way the world is today. Look around you, everything.
At times when I look at life and as I have visited these refugee camps I am overwhelmed by the complexity, the tragedy and all that goes along with it. But when I apply this quote to my life and the work that is done here, I see opportunity. I am empowered by possibilities.
Around the world there are millions of refugees, billions affected by poverty and war. As overwhelming as it may seem, trust me when I say, these problems were not and are not created by people smarter than you. As Steve Jobs says, “you can change it, you can influence it.”
