BACKGROUND

In 2016, in partnership with Jesuit Refugee Services (JRS), iACT launched Refugees United Soccer Academy in refugee camp Gado. At the time, there were more than 345,000 refugees from the Central African Republic living in Cameroon. Basic needs such as food, health, shelter, and water were all primary concerns. In 2019, we again partnered with JRS to train local teachers in four villages in eastern Cameroon in our Little Ripples pedagogy.

Today, iACT’s RUSA program hosts over 500 girls and boys, and we are working alongside the community to create health and menstrual hygiene programming.

PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION

Menstrual Hygiene

In Cameroon, our program provides boys and girls with the basic hygiene and reproductive health education while coaches are engaging women and girls in the community to help produce reusable menstrual pads for quarterly distribution. This approach helps remove barriers that prevent girls from participating in sport and program activities.

We are seeking partners to expand this initiative and make reusable pads more available to girls and women across Gado Refugee Camp and the surrounding host community.

We are also seeking partnerships in Livelihood, Child protection and Sport for protection.
