BACKGROUND

Eastern Chad is currently home to more than 1.2 million refugees from Sudan. Some have been there for more than 20 years, having fled the genocide that began in 2003. More than 900,000 have crossed over the border since the outbreak of violence in April 2023. With humanitarian services being cut across the globe, families are faced with a lack of access to critical services.

In 2013, in partnership with the Darfuri refugee community, iACT launched Refugees United Soccer Academy (then called Darfur United Soccer Academy) and Little Ripples in refugee camp Goz Amer. RUSA has since expanded to 13 refugee camps in the country and Little Ripples has expanded to eight.

“It makes me happy that my child is happy”

Houtoub (age 6) attends Little Ripples in eastern Chad. There she has the opportunity to play, learn, and make new friends. One of the things her mother, Mounira, likes most about the program is the daily nutritious meal her daughter receives.

Because of the Little Ripples meal program, “there is more food for the other children, and it makes me happy that my child is happy and enjoys Little Ripples."
