Today, Wednesday, October 11, 2017, is International Day of the Girl. I’d like you to meet one of our Little Ripples students, Suraya. Suraya loves her teachers at Little Ripples and enjoys coming to school to learn about letters and counting. Each day, she looks forward to racing her classmates to the hand-washing line prior to receiving their daily meal.
Suraya attends Little Ripples in refugee camp Goz Amer, eastern Chad. Little Ripples is a refugee-led and culturally-inspired early childhood development program that builds the capacity of refugee women and improves the early development of refugee children ages three to five through play. iACT works directly with refugee communities to establish, adapt, and implement Little Ripples—laying the foundation for a lifetime of well-being, learning, health, and peace for children affected by displacement and violence.
It only takes $20 a month to sponsor a refugee child like Suraya at Little Ripples for an entire year. This includes classroom and health and hygiene materials, a daily nutritious meal six days a week, maintenance of the children’s safe and peaceful space, and salaries for two teachers and two cooks.
