Supporting preschool programs in Darfuri refugee camps

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – JULY 1, 2013 – Barsha Wines and Spirits Tasting Room will be hosting a wine tasting fundraiser on Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 5pm to 8pm. This evening of wine, food, music, and friends will support Little Ripples, a program of local 501c3 organization i-ACT (Interactive Activism), which is starting comprehensive preschool programs in the Darfuri refugee camps of eastern Chad. Later this year, Little Ripples will fully launch its pilot program in the camp of Goz Amer by opening the doors of its newly built facilities to over 300 children ages three to five.

The creation of Barsha was inspired by husband and wife Adnen and Lenora Marouani. Adnen serves as the sommelier and works directly with small producers that focus on high quality and good value. Lenora takes the lead as the chef and turns out stunning tapas and salads to pair with the wine. About the fundraiser, Lenora says, “The reason Barsha is hosting this event is because we have a deep appreciation for what Little Ripples is doing for these much deserving children of Darfur. These children have just as much right as any other child to have a good start for the future. It’s the little ripples that make a big difference, and it is our honor to support this great cause!”

Jennifer Tang, Little Ripples coordinator, adds, “We’ve been extremely fortunate in partnering with with Barsha for this event. This is going to be such a great way for the local South Bay community to get together and have fun in support of Little Ripples.”

Tickets are $29 online which includes unlimited wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres provided by Barsha. There will be live musical performances as well as a photo and art display from the refugee camps. Raffle prizes include wine baskets and a wine tour courtesy of Barsha, tickets to the Discovery Science Center, tickets to the Art Department, jewelry, and much more.

Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/7144081139 or at the door for $35.

Barsha, a Tunisian phrase, which translates to “beaucoup” or “a lot” is much more than a wine shop. Along with their carefully chosen wine collection, they feature a wide aray of spirits (great bourbon and scotch collection), beers, cheese, charcuterie, and gourmet food products. Barsha’s tasting room offers a unique selection of wine flights from around the world. To accompany the wine is their farmers market driven menu that highlights California with a touch of Tunisia.
