This year we are proudly celebrating 10 years of listening, 10 years of action, and 10 years of supporting refugee leaders creating lasting change in their communities.
We are simply humbled by how far we have come in such a short amount of time. It has been an incredible decade-long journey born out of the ideas and passions of founder Gabriel Stauring. With two staff members and dozens of volunteers working at coffee shops and kitchen tables, iACT established its roots as an advocacy organization, dedicated to lifting up the voices of our refugee friends, creating meaningful connections between communities, and mobilizing individuals to take action and create change.
Ten years later, with six US-based employees, over 170 refugee employees, and award-winning sports, education, and human rights programs, iACT has become a leader in the humanitarian world, disrupting traditional top-down humanitarian practices and placing refugees at the heart of every solution.
Looking back at our story, we are proud. Looking forward to our future, we are committed. Stepping up as the new Co-Executive Directors of iACT, we are deeply grateful and excited to lead iACT into another decade of humanitarian action that increases refugee ownership, agency and voice, and creates a new culture of participation for people facing and responding to humanitarian crises. We commit to never losing sight of the human in front of us and next to us in our humanitarian work; we refuse accept the status quo and that things cannot be done differently; and we will do the work, every day, together, with joy, compassion, and laughter.
